Sony Ericsson have released the SDK for the upcoming Xperia X1 Smartphone. You may be a bit confused, because as all you savvy readers will know the Xperia X1 is operating on the Windows Mobile platform. An already strong platform which is enjoyed by mobile phone users around the world.
This SDK however is a free download from Sony Ericsson which will allow you to customize your Xperia X1 with whatever panels you please. The panels interface is similar to Apple’s iPhone Apps store and it will allow you to tailor your phone to however you want to use it. It is meant to make phone usage a much more interactive experience and allow users to customize and move through their phone more freely.
The video below gives us a short demo of what we’ll be able to expect when this gorgeous handset gets released. As you can see it is likely to have panels specifically for certain providers so you can configure your phone easily and quickly.
A new video circulating outlines a major security flaw in the Apple iPhone 3G. It is a deceptively simple flaw which seems slightly outrageous that Apple would have missed it.
By using the Emergency Call function you can access your Favorites list and full private contact information and then from there even access Safari for web browsing.
This has been alarming for many iPhone users and rightly so. Apple claims to be remedying this issue with the next firmware update, but there is not date on that release. Hopefully they’ll be quick to resolve the issue as this makes major security breaches a huge risk for all viewers.
For a preliminary measure you can take the following steps to prevent this breach from happening:
1. In the iPhone home, go to Settings.
2. Click on General.
3. Click on Home Button.
4. Click on either “Home” or “iPod”.
This takes away the quick access to your favorites page, but also stops anyone from getting access to contact information and full use of your phone.

The continuing buzz about the first Android handset, the previously reported about HTC Dream, is starting to grow into an earthquake. The info hungry internet is getting as many details as possible and the news about the first Android handset is slowing making its way to the masses.
Recently details about what the HTC Dream - now being called the T1 by T-Mobile - isn’t going to be featuring have come to light. Similar to the Apple iPhone 3G the Dream is not going to have full Bluetooth stack and data messaging and also Google Talk will not be present. Now before all of us feature gluttons get all complainy about the lack of this feature we have to consider that the developers are making a sound decision in this case. The Google Talk’s security measures are not anywhere near where they need to be to take the role of being a mainstay IM service.
Some other exciting spec news is the 528MHz Qualcomm 7201 CPU which should have no trouble handling the Android platform and also the weird and strangely alluring banana shape which will either be a make or break design quality for some.
So are we still laughing at Android for taking their time to get out their platform or are they just taking the right steps to make sure they’re not rushing out a dud? How is this going to affect the Google stock monster? Wait and see I guess.
Nokia is taking a beam of that spot light. Today, they have announced a couple of new N-series phones; The N85 Slider, looks like an N81 upgrade, and the N79 candy bar, appears to be the N78 new generation. The N85 (on top) slider phone is a 5 megapixels camera phone, equipped with GPS for directions, mapping and geotagging photos. The screen has been upgraded from a 2.4″ LCD (color TFT) to a 2.6″ AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode). N85 Will also sport a built in 8GB storage with a possible upgrade to 16GB. The N85 is also N-Gage friendly, with controls situated for gameplay in landscape view. Internet connectivity is through either Wi-Fi or HSDPA based 3G. As for the bar-style N79 (bottom), it is a 5 megapixel camera phone w/ dual-LED based flash, 3G and Wi-Fi capable, and has GPS.
It looks like our dreams may be coming reality. The news broke today that the first handset operating on Google’s Android platform has been approved by the FCC. The winner is, as some have been speculating, is the HTC Dream.
Industry news has it that the official word for the launch should come in September or October and the phone will be released on November 10th. It was originally thought that the phone would make to market earlier but the FCC documents indicate otherwise. A confidentiality request that ends on November 10th seems to confirm the launch date.
An unofficial source is listing the following as just some of the specs we can expect:
Jogball
Street view
E-Mail
Touch Display
Full internet capabilities
Maps
Access to all Google apps
Camera 3 MP
YouTube
3G / WiFi
No GPS has been confirmed yet, but it is expected as the Maps and Street view features would require it to function. So stay tuned for further updates on that.
As previously reported TMobile will be handling service for this device and will be offering at app store similar to Apple’s. It’ll be interesting to see how far Android can take us into cell phone applications and if it’ll be able to make up for the lost ground against the already functioning LiMo.

Analysts have revealed that the first phone sporting the Android platform is likely to be launching in November. This is a little later than previously reported, but now dates are starting to solidify a bit more coherently.
The FCC apparently approved the first phone recently and what this means for consumers is that they are going to have easy access on their phones to all of the Google applications that make our lives so easy. There is the possibility that the model may not be equipped with Microsoft Exchange. So if users are looking to access push e-mail they will likely have to do so through G-Mail. It isn’t clear if Exchange will be addable later.
In other news people have reported that T-Mobile will have an apps store similar to Apple’s to purchase and download applications. Also, Google Ad Software is coming pre-installed in the model which is suspected to lower the model price and possible even the service costs. The price you pay to look at viagra ads, I guess.

Earlier this week we brought you the video comparison of the iPhone 3G against the iPhone 3G. That is the advertisement iPhone and the real world iPhone. This was an eye opening video which let people know what they may be getting into in regards to connection issues.
This issue was nothing uncommon for the internet and forums and help centers have been lighting up with complaints and connection woes. There are a lot of people unhappy with Apple’s failure to deliver on the “twice as fast” connection speeds.
Carriers and analysts are blaming the iPhone’s hardware configurations, but Apple maintains that these bugs can be worked out with software updates which are currently in development.
Let’s hope Apple is right and that come the next software update we’ll be back up to “twice as fast.” These puppies still look and feel pretty cool though.
Nokia the makers of some of our most favorite handsets have started to tantalize us a little bit with the ad above.
They’re throwing an invitation only party to celebrate the release of two brand new handsets. The meeting will be held to inform people of “Design, Services & Software.” The ad is pretty cheeky and is doing a good job of getting this writer to salivate.
Rumour have it that the models to be announced will be the N79 and N85. The N78 is a nice simple candy bar phone with a 2.4 inch display and a lovely 5 megapixel camera. People are also speculating that his model is going to be equipped with aGPS and WiFi support.
The N85, the other rumored handset, is sporting that beautiful dual-sliding system which can be seen in the N95 and N96. Previous spec release have also indicated that it has Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio and also HSPA support. It is also equipped with a 5 megapixel camera is coupled with dual LED flash, and there’s also WiFi and aGPS.
Symbian with S60 Feature Pack 2 will be on with both models.

A short and poignant video review of the iPhone 3G has surfaced and is making it’s rounds on the viral video circuit. It features the infamous iPhone 3G ad which flexes the speed of 3G, side by side with a home video of a user using the phone in regular conditions with what is claimed to be a full strength signal.
If the video is as legit as it claims it is a pretty damning demonstration against Apple. The speed is nowhere near “twice as fast” and even though most people are already savvy enough to recognize overly slick advertising when they see it, Apple is falling short of its large claims.
Apple might want to be a little bit more careful with its advertising in future or the million or so customers they already have may be returning products “twice as fast.”
