While all eyes were on ZiPhone and zibri to release the iPhone v1.1.4 Jailbreak and SIM unlock guide it was iNdependence that unexpectedly came through with the goods.

This easy to use jailbreak will work with any version of firmware you have installed, the only downside is the loss of Google Maps My Location feature when you unlock your iPhone.

The Mac-based Apple iPhone modification tool will not only allow you to unlock your iPhone from AT&T’s steely grip it will also allow you to customize it with all the ringtones and wallpapers goodness you can handle.

Here’s how:

1. Connect your iPhone to iTunes.
2. Hit the “Update” button.
3. Let your iPhone go. Get some fresh air, tell your wife you love her. It’s going to be a while.
4. Download iNdependence 1.4 beta 5 here.
5. Put iNdependence in your “Applications” folder.
6. Start up iNdependence.
7. Go to the “Jailbreak” tab and hit the “Perform Jailbreak” button.
If you want to unlock it, go to the “Activation / SIM” tab and hit the “SIM Unlock” button.
8. To activate your iPhone, goto the “Activation / SIM” tab and hit the “Acivate” button.
9. Your done. That’s all folks you are now free. Enjoy!
