Nokia Haptikos Touchscreens Coming Soon

As the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile phones Nokia is not one to sit back politely and miss out on the touchscreen wars being waged by Apple, but will their Haptikos technology revoluntionise touch?

Taking their tactile technology to the bounds of comprehension for the lay inventor the patent speaks of creating “… variable and controllable user perceived surface roughness or friction coefficient“ by placing a “…plurality of closely spaced voltage controllable protuberances” that alter on the surface of the touchscreen.

With a working prototype and hard at work on drag and scrolling functions, Nokia may be about to take it to the iPhone once and for all.

Apple 3G iPhone Plans Around World

Despite whispers surrounding the release of the 3G iPhone users will not have to activate instore as rumored - that is if you are in the UK.

The range of offerings above, courtesy of Ars Technica, surrounding the much anticipated release vary wildly but instore activation, instore pick-up and contract only speculation appears to have been misplaced.

UK customers of the O2 network will be able to pre-order devices from today and will be able to receive their new jesus-phone right to their doorstep with activation completed via iTunes.

Not such great news for Canadian customers have already received their pricing structures minus unlimited data plans, and in Europe you can expect to pay anything from $94 to $377 for the Apple iPhone 3G 8GB with plans that vary from $24 and $128.

Don’t want a contract? Want unlimited data? Some countries are yet to release pricing or plans so cross your fingers Australia and Switzerland that you have more in common with the US than Denmark.

China Brings XPERIA X1 To Masses

With all the finger-biting ahead of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1’s September release many are idling crossing the calendar while China does what any self-respecting manufacturing-based copyright snubbing culture would do - it releases it first. Samsung Corn Phone Invites Puns, Helps Nature

What with hybrid cars and ethanol powered air travel you would think the market for foodstuffs would be exhausted, but then you hadn’t expected the Samsung “corn” phone clearly.

In a move that may be problematic if recent cellphone corn interactions are anything to go by, the Eco Phone SCH-W510 is a constructed of a shell of bioplastik derived from Corn.

A laudable attempt by Samsung to improve its green credentials the Corn phone process avoids toxic substances such as BFR (brominated fire retardants - brominated flame arresters) and PCB (polychlorinated biphenyls - polychlorinated biphenyls) and avoids the use of lead, mercury and cadmium.

So if you avoid slathering the device in butter and watching Sleepless in Seattle you can enjoy a feature set that includes 3 mp camera, Bluetooth, DMB-receiver and 3g HSDPA.

Get Android OS on Nokia N810, Video

If your sick of all the hoopla about the first Android gPhone and you want in on Android now you can , with a Nokia N810 and a few downloads you can immerse yourself in Google’s open-source OS.

1. First download android.img.bz2 here or here
2. Install the the android-installer.deb from here or here
3. Reboot!

Now to enjoy your new OS just start Android from the extra’s menu and wait 60 seconds and voila you are Google-toting internet-tablet-waving god of thunder.

Once villagers wise to the fact that you are in fact a tech head and not the often claimed god of thunder and you wish to rid yourself of all remaining evidence simply uninstall by removing the deb and deleting the android.img sitting on MMC card to get back to your original jobs-fearing ways.
