Is Sony really going to develop a smartphone capable of downloading and playing PlayStation games? This according to rumor is Sony’s latest project with Sony Ericsson in order to combat Apple’s growing hold on the mobile gaming market. Their goal is to to create a mobile gaming device that can make calls, surf the web, listen to music and most importantly, the handset should be able to connect to Sony’s online content services that enables the user to to play many original PlayStation games. iPhone’s many gaming apps especially the recent hit on Plants vs. Zombies game that took home $ 1 million worth of sale has made iPhone a huge threat to all mobile gaming devices and this PlayStation phone might just be Sony Ericsson’s chance to shine. Although this information is still unofficial, many speculate that this will hit the shelves by the end of the year.

A Sony Ericsson phone called Kurara which is a lower spec model compared to its cousin, the Sony Ericsson Satio is said to be on its way for release in the UK on April. The only notable downside to this is that the picture quality is not that good because it is not AMOLED. Nonetheless, the product features an 8.1 megapixel camera, a 3.5 mm jack, a micro USB socket and a program to access social networking sites such as facebook and twitter. According to rumors, it is most likely that the Sony Ericsson Kurara will be announced during the Mobile World Congress which also happens to be the same event when the Sony Ericsson Satio was introduced.

At long last! Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 finally hit the stores. Just like Xperia x1, it’s predecessor, you can expect to get a full sliding QWERTY keyboard a GPS and a bigger 3.2″ TFT touchscreen. Features that have been upgraded from the Xperia x1 include the 8 megapixel camera and the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS, while everything else remains the same like the processor, RAM and ROM. Too bad though that it didn’t make it in time for the Holidays, it could have made a really good present for your loved ones but would apparently be a bit too pricey for most people for the price of 500 Euro.

Sony Ericsson is soaring high with its new Xperia X10, its first ever Google phone to be available in the market by 2010. This much awaited handset phone from Sony Ericsson will run Google’s Android software, and feature a 4.0-inch touch screen display, and 8.1-megapixel camera. Google applications will also be available for the Xperia X10 such as Google Calendar, Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps Navigation and of course the Android Market from where you can download applications. What’s more amazing is Sony Ericsson’s plan to incorporate its Sony playstation’s consoles which in my opinion is going to be a sure hit.

A new feature that Sony Ericsson is currently working on is sure to draw public’s attention. This is because the used-to-be dull, unappealing voicemails that we all got so accustomed to will now be replaced with a visual voicemail by Sony Ericsson courtesy of Comverse. It will be the alike a regular email and will still give important details such as the date, time, message length and caller ID if available. Although still unofficial, many companies are showing interest on this cool feature and have also sent feelers of this technology. Let’s wait and see how this turns out.

A special headset has recently been released by Sony Ericsson and it was named MH907. It is the first ever motion-controlled headset available in the market and no buttons are necessary to operate it. It uses a SensMe technology which identifies if the user wants to place or receive a call. Basically, how it works is if you want to listen to music just plug in both earbud then the music starts automatically. If you want to take a call just remove one of the earbuds it means that you are going to take a call, if you remove both the earbuds then the music stops completely. However fascinating this device is, it is only compatible with Sony Ericsson devices.

The excitement for the upcoming model from Sony Ericsson’s Xperia line, the X2 hasn’t even subsided yet and here comes a rumor that the Sony Xperia X3 is set for an unofficial launch date in January 2010 which also happened to be the expected launch date for its predecessor, the xperia X2. The good thing about it is these two handsets run at an entirely different platforms; X3 being Sony Ericsson’s first ever big jump to Anroid technology and then there’s X2 as Windows Mobile therefore this shouldn’t be an issue. The xperia X2 has been announced to cost around $880 USD and will cover European and Asian areas, no pricing was announced for its sibling, the Xperia X3

Thinking about what to give to that special someone this coming Holiday season? Well, worry no more! The world’s first ever translucent screen-phone from Sony Ericsson named Xperia Pureness is set for a November UK release date. That is if you want a rather pricey phone with low specs. Considered as a luxury phone, this will cost around 600 Euro and will only be available through high-end stores and boutiques such as Selfridges and design museum shops according to Brand Republic. Sony Ericsson even described their Xperia Pureness as “a simple design phone which brings together beautiful craftsmanship and the concept of “talk, text, time - a holiday from technology”. And according to head of Brand at Sony Ericsson, Cathy Davies, the Pureness will be promoted as a design piece rather than a technological marvel and would be an ‘iconic niche product, not mass market’ Now this surely explains a lot about it’s costly price.
