Moto Twirl concept phone looks like the Android character

moto.jpg

A new concept phone called the Moto Twirl Phone has been developed by Motorola and released on 2008. This out-of-the-box concept that was designed by Joseph Liagn is shaped like the adorable Android character we are all familiar with. Just like what you would expect from a toy phone, it features a small display yet the phone itself looks too bulky and blocky. However, the unusual thing about this concept phone is that its bottom panel can be separated/inserted at its upper part which makes the phone smaller by half of its size when the two parts are joined together. The keypad of the phone also looks sophisticated with its ability to work as a navigation device as well. No specific features were mentioned yet for this Motorola concept phone but who knows? it might just be a hit because of its Kawaii look.

LG Sphere, a 3-D concept phone that adapts to the user’s mood

lg-sphere.JPG

The Domus Academy in collaboration with LG Electronics and Gino Finizio Design management has come up with a phone concept they would like to call the LG Sphere. It is a hi-tech mobile phone that integrates GPS and Bluetooth which can recognize the position of the user so it could adapt itself according to their needs and moods. It relies on its 3-D interface which was made possible by its half-sphere shape and convex display for optimal virtual expansion and better 3-D effects. This concept is so cool that it would be a waste if it doesn’t make it to the market.

Radia Cellphone concept combines functionality and style

radia.JPG

Radia is a concept cellphone designed by Michael Laut which clearly expresses simplicity in form yet cleverness when it comes to functionality and user interface. The outer ring of this round shaped phone is made of brushed aluminum which gives it a sophisticated look plus a transparent touchscreen display which is large enough to display all the informations needed by the user yet small enough to maintain a pocket-sized device. A quick glance at it and one could probably mistake the phone with a pocketwatch or even a drink coaster. The power button is diagonal from the earpiece speaker and balanced by the microphone which is 180 degrees around the perimeter. Let’s hope that this phone becomes official in the near future.

Scratch to answer the phone and possibly more!!

scratch-input-harrison1.jpg

Right, as most of us know, finger nails scratching on just about any surface is enough for most of us to run for cover. But if you can overcome this annoyance, it can become a very handy gesture to control your phone. Answer the phone, turn the volume up or down, no problem. Theoretically it can even be used to type messages, but problems with certain letters are becoming a problem, namely being M, W, T, X, V, L. This is because the developed device is designed to recognize the frequencies that your finger nail stroke makes. Although, I’m sure the developers and researchers will overcome this soon enough. As Chris Harisson says, “Its a crazy idea but a simple one” and that we can practically consider most surfaces as the User Interface to your phone. Also if mass produced, this clever little device can cost as  little as $1. Picture this, the phone is ringing and you are in a meeting, scratch your trousers to silence or re-direct the call to your voicemail. Now thats what I call discreet!

Kinetic energy for your phone

cargadordecelular-thumb-530x296-21696.jpg

Ever been in the rush in the morning where you are running around like mad getting ready to leave the house because you are late? Then to your horror, realise that your phone is low on battery!! Well with this new mobile technology concept, you could literally use that rushing around energy to power up your phone or mp3 player. Sure it will only last you a few hours maybe, but take this little device out for a morning run, and you could well be in business for the rest of your day. The technology is based on what you would normally find in self winding wrist watches, and being of a flexible structure, it will not get in with your daily lifestyle too much.

DYA Diagonal Slider phone concept

Now heres something new we have never seen before in the mobile industry. Picture this, the phone rings and you slide open the phone to pick up the call, BUT, instead of going sideways or upwards, this will be going in both ways!  Packing some interesting futuristic features such as bubble shaped buttons, not to mention the elastic paint back, minimizing damage when dropped as much as possible. Interesting indeed, I’d certainly like to see some more pictures of it, possibly with a screen of some sort maybe?

Lighter to be incorporated onto your phone?

lighter-phone-20090717-500.jpg

Could this be true? If not I’m sure it must have crossed some of your minds out there! For those of you that always loses your lighter or never have one, then fear no more, as this little concept will save you. Incorporated onto the back of your phone, rather then having a 8MP camera under the sliding cover, now you can find a lighter looking like something you’d find in your car. Not only will you not be doing yourself any favors by killing yourself, but you’d be killing your phone battery too! Don’t be lending this lighter out much, you probably wont be seeing it again just like the rest of them!!

S-Vision Projector phone concept

svision.gif

Gone are the laptops and heavy projectors, since all the work is done by this little baby. S-Vision incorporates a LED micro-beamer, that projects the images you want and you might want to know that this technology was already used on some handsets, specially those launched in Asia.

The projector is activated by folding the side out of the handset, thus making the body of the device adapt to the situation, we presume it will come with plenty of smartphone features and a battery good enough to cope with these amazing features. When will this be available? Stayed tuned with TimTechs News and we’ll keep you updated.

Apple iPhone Elite Concept Designs

While we’re all awaiting the upcoming Apple technology lovefest coming up in June people are whetting their appetites of what may be coming.

We’ve had some pretty reliable information indicating that the next generation Apple iPhone will likely have a 32GB model, as well as a 3.15 MP camera. But what about design changes? At the moment it isn’t likely, but we can dream can’t we?

Well designer Mat Brady of Planet Mat can definitely dream. He’s mocked up some iPhone designs, dubbed iPhone Elite, with some interesting additions. One which has been catching eyes around here is the dual sliding keyboard. One way you have a very Apple-esque full QWERTY keyboard and go the other way you have a gaming pad. In addition to that the phone will now (at least in Mat’s mind) feature a 5MP camera with a protruding lens.

While it’s not likely that anything like this is going to happen anytime soon, especially in the slide out keyboard front, but we do know from previous experience that Apple does listen to its customers and addresses demands.

Anyone else have any cool concept designs they’ve seen or made?
