The people at Boy Genius Report are confirming that the Motorola Calgary will be Motorola’s first Google Android OS mobile. This announcement comes hot on the heels of Samsung’s first Android phone the I7500.
The mobile is planned to be released for Verizon by the fourth quarter of this year. The phone, from preliminary pictures, looks pretty cool design wise. Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of details in regards to specs, but rumor has it that the phone will be highly focused on social networking sites and apps and of course be fully integrate-able with Google services.
This may be just what Motorola needs to get out of their slump and also may be an indication of Google building up steam with this young OS.
How does this change your feelings about Motorola? Willing to give them a shot in the smartphone game?

Motorola is a dominant force in the mobile device world, but they still haven’t made their mark in the smartphone territory. A rumored model appears to indicate that they will.
Details are scant as usual, but as seen from the pictures sourced from engadget above Motorola has plans for a full touch screen phone. Engadget Mobile reports that the phone will come with a Kodak-branded 5MP camera and sources also indicate that this may be Motorola’s first Android OS device. Making it the second brand to officially adopt the OS after HTC’s G1.
If Motorola can get this off the ground it may be the shot in the arm that they need to really make waves in the smartphone market. So far they are lagging behind in technology and cool, but a full touch screen phone such as this and also the possibility of the Android OS would give them a good chance to enter the fight.

It has been rumored that they’re currently looking to build up a 350 person team dedicated to developing the Android OS for Motorola phones. This will definitely be a boost to Motorola’s rep and should give them another step ahead in the market.
No other brands have yet seriously committed to Android, although representative were seen hobnobbing with the industry at the at the Android development conference and the blogosphere is reporting that they may be next. Former Motorola executive Michael Fenger is taking some legal heat from his old employer for taking a job with rival company Apple. He left his former position with Motorola with a hefty bonus given specifically as incentive for not taking any jobs with rival companies. Less than a month later Fenger has found himself as the vice-president of global iPhone sales.
Motorola is taking legal steps to stop Fenger from continuing the job over worries that he may reveal some of Motorola’s secret recipes. If successful Motorola will be able to prevent Fenger from taking any jobs for two years and thereby hopefully making all of his trade secrets null.
Motorola here needs to get in for long fight and make sure to stake their place on this position. They don’t need to lose anymore ground to the iPhone juggernaut. Get ready for a legal royal rumble.

Expectation surrounding the release of the
Motorola ZN5 Motozine centers around suspicions that it will feature the 5 megapixel Kodak camera and these live pics look like proof positive the ZN5 is one to beat.
Another 5 mp camera in a crowded marketplace with leaders such as
Nokia N95 and
LG Viewty maintaining a firm grip ma seem daunting for the suffering manufacturer but with Kodak onboard and Xenon Flash and auto-focus the first 5mp from
Motorola may just open a new door.
