Mini N97 vs iPhone nano?

nokia_n97_mini_1.jpg

So what do we have here then? It seems the rumored N97 nano might just be true as opposed to the iPhone nano which was rumored a while back. Looking at the picture here it sure looks very real indeed. In comparison to its older brother the original and first Nokia Touchscreen QWERTY smartphone, it is slightly slimmer and lacking the original sliding cover. All in all, a smaller version of its older brother. But we do wonder what will be the selling factor of this new addition if its almost certainly going to be same specification compared to the original, if not, lesser. “photos courtesy of engadget”

Google Voice losing its say

no-google-voice-iphone-rm-eng.jpg

When Google Voice developer announced that this app would be coming to the iPhone, maybe he should have checked with Apple first. As now it seems that it has been or will be removed due to it replicating a iPhone in built function. Not long after that, GVdialer had been rejected, now this might seem bad, but Googles voice apps have been rejected completely by Cupertino. Whos to blame? Well  fingers at certainly pointing towards cellular carriers. However, Google spokesman has announced that although the Google voice has been rejected, they will continue to develop apps for the iPhone.

Android 2.0 “Donut”

google-adp1-donut.jpg

Androids new code repository has been bombarded with a whole new load of “Donut” stuff in the recent few days. And as expected, the dev society are already exploiting its possibilities. Reports have suggested that many demos at the I/O show this year have made it into this new update. Such as universal search, text to speech, and multitouch gesture support to enable users to draw symbols on the screen to initiate certain actions. Not only this, but its also showing there will be signs of CDMA technology support, something which is imperative for Verizon and Sprint users, both who will inevitably launch G1 version available, although is very unstable, and incomplete.

Samsung to jump on the Mobile watch band wagon!

It wasn’t long ago that we saw the upcoming release of the LG GD910 (which is yet to be released in the US), and our lovely LG Oyster mobile watch concept. But it now seems that Samsung also have something on the pipeline to join the Mobile watch craze! The model in question is the S9110, it claims to be the thinnest touchscreen phone ever coming in at 11.98mm thick, as opposed to LG’s GD910 at 13.9mm. The S9110 however lacks 3G and will be released in France in the very near future for 450Eur ($639 USD).

LG going watch crazy??

After all the waiting and anticipation for the LG GD910, what do we have here, another watch style phone “concept” from LG. This my friends here is dubbed the LG Oyster designed by Kenny Lohr II. Now I’m not too sure about the design of this for cell phone usage, but this is surely going to be a popular one for the ladies.

X and C to join the Nokia Series

big.jpg

Until the Nokia N/E series stepped into the game, it has always been a collection of 4digit number models for the phone giants. Now it seems there are 2 new ranges to enter into the arena dubbed X-Series and C-Series. You can expect both to cover smartphones and accessories, but there has been no indication as to what the new devices will eventually look like. With Nokia’s marketing regime, their devices have always been evolving around 4 different aspects:

  • Achieve; the Eseries,
  • Explore; the Nseries,
  • Live; fashion icons for people with active lifestyles,
  • Connect; easy to use but far from basic phones which emphasises on ways to conect to others.

So one could only think that the 2 new series will be destined to the Live and Connect range of their phones.

LG GD910 Watch Phone heading for the States!

Finally after a long wait for all of us LG fans. Announced earlier in the year at the CES in Las Vegas, the cool GD910 has been given FCC approval. Now we dont know which US carrier will be taking this on board, but considering its GSM frequencies, AT&T should just seem like a natural partner. Stay with us, while we dig out more information regarding this much anticipated phone/watch.

DYA Diagonal Slider phone concept

Now heres something new we have never seen before in the mobile industry. Picture this, the phone rings and you slide open the phone to pick up the call, BUT, instead of going sideways or upwards, this will be going in both ways!  Packing some interesting futuristic features such as bubble shaped buttons, not to mention the elastic paint back, minimizing damage when dropped as much as possible. Interesting indeed, I’d certainly like to see some more pictures of it, possibly with a screen of some sort maybe?

Lighter to be incorporated onto your phone?

lighter-phone-20090717-500.jpg

Could this be true? If not I’m sure it must have crossed some of your minds out there! For those of you that always loses your lighter or never have one, then fear no more, as this little concept will save you. Incorporated onto the back of your phone, rather then having a 8MP camera under the sliding cover, now you can find a lighter looking like something you’d find in your car. Not only will you not be doing yourself any favors by killing yourself, but you’d be killing your phone battery too! Don’t be lending this lighter out much, you probably wont be seeing it again just like the rest of them!!

Sony Ericsson Release Second Quarter Report

Sony Ericsson Second Quarter Report

We’ve said before and we’ll say it again: Times are tough for everyone. That includes phone manufacturers.

Sony Ericsson released their Q2 report and things were not looking rosy. In almost all of the major stats the company saw losses. The amount of units shipped was down 5% compared to the last quarter and they are taking steps to eliminate 2,350 workers throughout the whole company.

On maybe the sole bright side for the company their Average Selling Price rose which brought up their higher gross margin, but from the talk of the SE accountants they are going to need a lot more than that.

With Apple, the Palm Pre and HTC’s continuing Android OS series the market is getting tougher and tougher. Sony Ericsson currently have three major titles in the upcoming months, the Satio, Aino and Yari. They are hoping to take back some of their market share with these titles.

In the meantime it looks like SE needs some innovation to bring them back into play. Any ideas people?
