iSync Now for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic iSync

Mac and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic users rejoice. iSync is finally here for Nokia’s first fully touchscreen device. Us Apple nerds have been waiting.

Nokia has always been quite Mac friendly and iSync has been available for most of their smartphones. This allows Mac users to get all contact and schedule information to be synced with the phone in question. Up until now however, the 5800 XpressMusic iSyncing software was not available. Now syncing this touchscreen device with your Mac information will never be easier.

This is welcome news to smartphone fans who happen to be Mac users. They have long missed out on many smartphone features due to the PC-centric nature of the smartphone industry.

Do you base any of your Smartphone purchasing on your OS or computer hardware? Let us know if this is going to affect your purchasing?

Barack’s New Blackberry

Sectera Edge

There was more than a little talk in the blog-o-sphere regarding newly sworn in President Barack Obama’s desire to keep on to his Blackberry. With understandable security concerns he was being encouraged to give up the device should it make him more vulnerable to mobile security breaches.

However, he persisted and holding the most powerful seat in the land has prevailed. This does not come without any compromises though.

The Result? The Sectera Edge. This is a Blackberry type phone designed by the contractor General Dynamics. As you can see from the diagram above you might say it is a little “souped-up.”

The phone features dual secure and non-secure functions for almost every connection method of the phone. Meaning that the phone can communicate with other phones operating on secure channels and also phones operating on normal networks. Phone calls, texts, emails are all functional to communicate with any phone in the world.

The technical security features get into a lot of different letters in a row which presumably means that someone put a lot of work into making sure it will take a lot of work to decrypt anything coming out or going into the phone. Whether that will be enough to stop some ambitious 15 year out to make trouble is yet to be seen.

Questions still remain if this highly unique nature of the device will only make it more easy to identify or even give people an easier time of tracking the president.

Obviously security officials in the government are declining to comment on anything, but as this device was developed for the National Security Agency it is considered to be a “secure mobile environment portable electronic device.”

If you yourself are considering upgrading your security on your mobile device perhaps it would be worth considering the listed price of $3,500.

What we want to know is does it support MP3s?

Smartphone Market Still Strong

Smartphone Sales

It has been reported by ABI research that Smartphone purchases are likely to rise in the coming year, despite an expected fall in the overall global handset sales. What this means is that even though there is an expected slowdown in cellphones in total, more advanced technology phones are likely to stay on a steady path upwards in sales.

The Global Financial Crisis is being selective in what it is effecting or perhaps there are some markets which are too resilient to be affected. Customers hungry for new feature heavy smartphones such as the Nokia N series, the Apple iPhone 3G, the new Blackberry models or the HTC line don’t seem to take notice of the other lagging markets. The desire for functions such as GPS, global internet and a variety of life-managing applications are fueling a relatively new industry which shows no signs of slowing down.

These figures are no surprise considering how much more access consumers have to reviews and technical specs and also the dropping price of manufacturing which is passed on to the buyer. Technology is improving and prices are dropping. Customers are now much less apt to buy almost disposable non-smartphones and much more likely to invest in a long lasting smartphone which can provide them with such features as internet, GPS and other features that are highly desirable.

A good example of this is the recent launch of the iPhone 3G in Taiwan. In a very short period of time the iPhone has managed to take 2.2% of the total handset market there and it doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon.

What this means for you is that there will be more investment in smartphone technology which will speed up development and most likely bring prices down even more in the future. That means cheaper and more advanced smartphones for the consumer.

What’s your opinion? Do you see the rise in smartphone sales, but the fall in overall handset sales as a positive or negative to the industry? Is it safe to invest yet?

iPhone 3G Sniper App

iPhone SniperApp

Have you been looking to turn your iPhone 3G or iPod touch into a killing machine lately? Are you wondering what the hell I’m talking about or if that picture above is real? Let me answer your questions.

Runaway App has developed the BulletFlight App which will assist you in lining up long distant sniper shots. This app has built-in profiles of three weapons that you can use in conjunction with your iPhone 3G or iPod. If you have a M110 semi-automatic precision rifle, KAC PDW, or 14.5in SR16 rifle you will be ready to go.

The app provides information regarding how to take your shot based on the distance to your target, wind speed and the type of ammunition you are using. All data and environmental conditions are fed into the application and it gives you a calculated point of where to aim your scope for the best chance of hitting your target.

Who this app is marketed for is a bit scary to think about, but it is an indication of how the use of your iPhone 3G is seemingly unlimited.

Preview of the Palm Pre

There’s a new smart phone which has set the world abuzz with rumors, early reviews and all of the other things that come with the excitement of the internet.

The Palm Pre, which is slated to be released for Sprint later this year (with European GSM versions to follow), has been making waves in the mobile industry with it’s innovative Touch OS and also it’s sleek design.

Palm Pre

Here are some of the highlights that we’ve been impressed with:

  • Extremely fluid and easy to use OS. Very little lag on initial testings.
  • Desktop organization and touch navigation is a joy to use.
  • Small and easy to handle.
  • The intuitive “Card System” makes for easy use of launching and closing apps.
  • The Gesture Bar makes moving through the phone’s OS with one hand a breeze.
  • Cut and paste functions, as well as MMS messaging (two features the iPhone 3G is lacking).

The SDK will be released to developers and the public and new apps will be presented in what is planned to be an iPhone type apps store where new programs can be downloaded. It is speculated that it will be much less restrictive the Apple’s current policy on software development.

In terms of lacking features there is currently no video recording option, but that will most likely get added shortly. Aside from minor disadvantages such as that, the amazing design and Web OS looks to make the Palm Pre a huge competitor against the iPhone.

Do you think the Palm Pre will be able to take a chunk out of the iPhone’s hold on the multimedia mobile market?

Check out this demo video and let us know what you think:

LG Previews New Watch Phone

Oh LG! Thank you for catering to my childhood Dick Tracy fantasies. You’re sure to win over gadget and comic book geeks alike with your new, sleek high tech release.

The LG GD910 is the ultimate in cool. This phone/watch is wowing the internet. This little beauty features a TFT capacitive touchscreen that lets you dial, scroll through functions and operate this mobile device with ease. The screen, although small, doesn’t seem to be much problem for the demoer in the video below.

Talking can be done through Bluetooth pairing or using the speaker phone by talking directly into the device. I prefer to wear it on the inside of the wrist to give it that secret service feel.

Other features include 3G capability, MP3 player and a CIF camera for sneaking pictures of Russian spies at international black tie galas, where you’re feeling a little woozy after that vodka martini that you had with that blonde bombshell and that big guy with the eye patch has been looking at you funny all night and you don’t know if you remembered to bring your cyanide pills and… I mean, it’s great for taking a quick picture on the go!

This device was previewed at the CES 2009 show and is expected to go into production later this year. Check out this demo video below and tell us what you think.
