Just a short list of phones that you can customize with apps from this site: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Samsung INNOV8 i8510, Nokia E63, Nokia N85 and many more.
Let us know what your favorite apps are!
Here are some of the apps that really caught our eye:
This applications is a media connector. phling! Gets music and media to your phone in an instant without any syncing. It also allows you to share your favorite tracks and what you think of them with your own personal music fan community. Turn your PC into a media broadcaster and allow friends to listen to what you think is hot, wherever they are. This is a needed app for any music junky.
This one is a pretty obvious choice and if you don’t already have it we highly recommend picking it up. Have access to maps and satellite views wherever you are. Get step by step directions to addresses and use street view to navigate by landmarks. This also syncs with GPS enabled devices for a very powerful navigation tool.
Personalize your mobile anyway you want with a variety of useful features. Set your digital clock for all of your alarms and notices, streamline your applications so you can get to the most used ones quickly, change your phone theme. One of our favorite features is the Weather data which can give you up to date information at anytime.
This is a classic puzzle game which has been adapted for S60 devices. Shoot bubbles at a descending group of bubbles and try to clear the screen by matching color combinations. A surefire boredom killer at any moment.
Who doesn’t need to keep an eye on their wallet nowadays? Money lite lets you do this in style. Keep expense forms, withdrawal and deposit information, account balances and whatever other financial data you need to keep handy. This is a great, simple to use money manager.
Why can’t we be friends? Oh why can we be friends?
Well as simple as that beautiful Smashmouth opus may sound, putting that philosophy into practical use is easier sung than done. Especially in the smartphone world.
Example: The Palm Pre, that everyone has been drooling over has been making a lot of noise with its impress UI, the smooth OS and maybe more than anything else it’s buttery looking touch screen system. Nowadays this isn’t considered the most groundbreaking technology as things like this have been around for a while, but some people feel that it’s not necessarily technology that belongs to everyone. Namely, Apple.
After the demos of the Palm Pre started spreading like wild internet fire, Apple got a bit defensive and started huffing and puffing and then accused the kind of touching that the Palm Pre was participating was inappropriate.
The legal jumbo is a bit convoluted and going over most of our heads, but it what it boils down to is that Apple as the the patent for certain kinds of touch interfaces which are in use in the iPhone 3G. This includes multi-touch interface, certain kinds of scrolling and other more technical aspects. From the demos we’ve seen, the Palm Pre could definitely be infringing on those patents.
The result? It could mean a variety of different things. If pushed to the limit Palm Pre’s release could be significantly delayed. There is also a possibility of Palm paying licensing fees for the use of the functions or in the best case scenario for Palm they will prove that they aren’t biting no one’s style.
What it means for us? A lot of talk and not much rock. We’re pretty eager to see this set get out into our hands.
We’ve heard of rugged phones, but this is ridiculous!
The Mobile website mobile@mail.ru put the LG Renoir KC910 through some Bush-level, enhanced interrogation techniques recently. In addition to leaving it in a freezer for 12 hours, dipping into a lovely 2006 Bordeaux and stepping on it, they also ran it over with a car. And to it’s credit the LG Renoir survived the test.
So now current LG Renoir KC910 users and prospective buyers can rest assured that if you want to put your phone into a dryer and not have it break, you probably can.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: TimTechs in no way condones or recommends what you are about see in the following videos and encourages all mobile users to treat their phones with care and respect to enjoy a long lasting and enjoyable cellphone experience.
HTC Touch Pro users are going to have something to be happy about in the first week of February. The folks at Mozilla have announced that they are planning to launch the mobile version of their FireFox browser, hopefully by next week.
The browser is named Fennec (a small fox found in Northern Africa, get it?) and will be made exclusively available for the HTC Touch Pro. Now that may be a bit of a disappointment to other Windows Mobile users who are a bit fed up with the Pocket IE browser, but we imagine that a more widely slated release that will have it running more universally isn’t far behind. If not, the regular team of software twiddlers out there will most likely have it running on other HTC devices in a less official manner in no time.
Mozilla made waves in the browser market by taking a large chunk of userdom from Internet Explorer and it is often praised for its speed and less spyish activities. If they are able to work out all the bugs with this initial release, we may have a much more pleasant time surfing the web from our handhelds.
Would you reconsider a Windows Mobile device if it meant you could surf the web with a FireFox based browser? Let us know!
We’ve all had our grievances with our most loved/hated Apple iPhone 3G. There is no cut and paste, a weak camera, the tight lock on new developers, and so on and so forth. But thanks to the helpful people of the internet we’ve overcome yet another one of those pesky limitations to this fantastic device.
A development by MeDevil has managed to lift one of the most annoying disadvantages of the iPhone, Bluetooth file transfer. As seen in the video below, the user is able to transfer files between an iMac and also another mobile handset.
Of course this is in no way approved by Apple and if you wish to install it, your iPhone will have to be jailbroken for unofficial applications.
This app is scheduled to be released soon by Cynthia and once installed your iPhone will be able to transfer files with any other device that is enabled for Bluetooth file transfers.
Even though the world of Open Source programming for our smartphones can bring us things like this, it can also bring us things like this.
Developer and blogger Luke Hutchison has developed a much need multi-touch capacity to the Android OS for the HTC G1. The hack (is it still a hack if its open source?) demoed in the video below gives you all of the standard zoom and movement features already available in other smartphones.
For more details you can see Luke’s Blog and follow the instructions for installation.
Please be advised that this will most likely void any warranty that you have with T-Mobile.

Nokia has just announced a new application called Nokia Chats that can be found on their Nokia - Beta Labs website.
The new chat integrates GPS systems into the chatting experience. It allows you to get online and broadcast your location to all of your friends and allows you to see the locations of anyone who has invited you into their chat contact list. You can also select spots where you want your location to be broad cast if you don’t want your location to be visible all the time. Then it will let your friends know when you’re at home or your favourite coffee spot.
In addition to the GPS systems the application acts as a handy instant message program which you can add and manage other contacts who are using the system.
Nokia claims only people you allow to see you get to know your location or track your movements, but the anywhere at anytime aspect of the app is still a bit creepy. These security concerns will have to be addressed by Nokia other wise people may not be that interested in letting everyone know where they are are all the time.
Check out this handy demo video with a slightly awkward demoer doing his thing:
A large amount HTC G1 users have been hit with a corrupt application called MemoryUP. The program makes claims that it will clean up your memory and improve the processing speed on your device. However, when users started the app a variety of problems started occurring.
Some users complained of all of their contacts being deleted, others were instantly spammed along with the addresses on their contact lists. Others experienced complete memory loss as well as SD cards being cleared away as well.
T-Mobile has not yet commented on the app as they are not affiliated with it, but this doesn’t satisfy the estimated 10,000 to 50,000 users who fell victim to this bunk application.
So beware and tell your friends to avoid this application. You should also be aware the the Java in the phone and the actual construction of the Android OS does not require any assistance in cleaning up memory in the device. This will be done automatically.
It leaves us to question the possible advantages of open source software mixing with commercial devices. Are you rethinking your mobile choices considering the possibility of these dangerapps out there?
HTC G1 and Android fans have been getting a bit of hot and cold recently with the possible release date of the Android software build, CODENAME: Cupcake.
While people are anxiously awaiting the release of this update to fix some of the more apparent bugs in the Android system and also add some key features which have been missing from the original release T-Mobile has been putting up roadblocks for the official release of the update.
T-Mobile is being quite vague about any type of release date giving the old “We will update you as T-Mobile G1 software updates are made available” the information on the Cupcake website is slightly conflicting with that lack of commitment.
Whatever the case the Android users among us are anxiously awaiting some kind of update. And are you wondering why? Well lets look at just a small sample of the bug fixes and new features there will be straight from the Cupcake website:

The video recording and voice dialer updates particularly excite us here at TimTechs. What do you think? Will this make you reconsider the G1 or other future Android devices?
Apple has officially put the kybosh on any iPhone Nano rumors. The blog-o-sphere (I guess that counts us) got more than a little excited about the prospect of Nano phones being released for more casual users who aren’t looking for contract phones.
These rumors were started by a JP Morgan analyst who’s sources were revealed to be Gazoo and the Toothfairy. Those rumors caught fire and speculation went every which way and was relying on people who heard “stuff about stuff.”
However Timothy Cook, the Chief Operating Officer for Apple, made it clear that Apple had no interest in pursuing an iPhone Nano at this time. The focus of Apple according to Cook are developing the “world’s best phone” by pushing software and applications to the limits.
This does fit more into Apple’s progress into the mobile market as their Apps store is reaching new heights in sales and that is the driving force for most iPhone 3G users. If they were to create new devices as well this could impede developer’s progress as it makes it much more tricky to design software compatible with multiple devices with different screen sizes and input methods.
So this bloggers will say “oops” for getting caught up in the frenzy. But really, it was fun to dream wasn’t it?
