Blackberry Javelin Hardware Specs Leaked

javelin.gif
The Javelin has been slowly making its way into our websurfing paths recently and there have been a few more developments in the news just in the past few days.Hardware specs for this awesome new handset have come out and they look pretty spectacular. Although there is no 3G connectivity, there are some other pretty sweet goodies.

Check it out:
* 512 MHz Processor
* 256 MB onboard flash memory (more room for apps)
* Hot-swappable microSD slot - located under the battey door
* 480 by 360 high-res HVGA+ display
* Wi-Fi b/g with UMA + GPS
* Micro USB charging/syncing port, w/ high speed data

The above specs make for a pretty devestating smart phone. And as long as the physical interface is on par with all of the previous Blackberries this will be a winner. For me the lack of 3G is minor considering the Wi-Fi and GPS.

What do you think? Is this on your christmas list?

Apple Apps Sales Soar, Kill Switch Revealed

Apple App Sales

The Apple juggernaut hit a new high recently after announcing that there have been over 60 million software downloads from the App Store. These downloads, after being up for only a month, are apparently generating $30 million in revenue. Bare in mind this is just as the iPhone is picking up steam.

Steve Jobs is obviously ecstatic and he confirmed so in a Wall Street Journal interview. The other bit of information he also confirmed was the presence of the rumored and highly controversial ‘Kill Switch’ for non approved applications. We brought you this news previously.

Jobs says “Hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pull.” There isn’t much elaboration upon why it is so irresponsible, but we’re it will put many hackers out there to work against this kill switch. When do you think the hack will be out?

All that aside Apple still seems like it’s on the path to mobile phone gold and maybe we should turn our portfolios to those stats and not the apps we aren’t supposed to be running.

No Joining between Android and LiMo

No Collab between Android and LiMo
Despite earlier speculation, the rumors of a possible Android and LiMo collaboration have been quashed. Google claims that they are close to completion with their technology and any kind of input from anyone else would ruin the user experience. Thus they have no interest in LiMo.

This may prove tough for Google in the long run as they are starting to fall behind fast in the market. Despite the end of the year estimate from Android’s Eric Chu for Android’s release, LiMo might already have another round of phones on the market. This will be loss ground for Google.

What to do you think? Any preferences towards either system? Is all the Android hype worth the wait? Will the release date even effect google?

Apple and Orwell Collaboration

Big Brother iPhone 3G

People have been speculating about news from iPhone hacker Jonathan Zdziarski that the iPhone 3G has the ability to contact Apple headquarters and communicate what kind of apps you have on your system. From that there it is believed that Apple will be able to disable those apps thus “black listing” them.

The function seems to be tucked away deep in the iPhone’s programming according to Mr. Zdziarski, the author of iPhone Open Application Development, making it more suspicious and slightly sneaky. What else do they want our phones to send them covertly?

What are you trying to hide Apple? Remember, we paid for this iPhone 3G please let us use it as we see fit.

How would Glenn Gould feel? Phone orchestra

Time is an amazing thing. With enough of it you can do a lot of different things: invent the light bulb, devise a theory for relativity, even cure diseases. I just never knew you could do this:

All Screen, All Touch

Plica, All screen cellphone
Where are cellphones going? How are you going to get the largest screen possible on the most compact device?

There are a rumors floating around of designs being geared toward all screen clamshell phones. This would incorporate Apple’s iPhone buttonless feature with a clamshell system. No buttons and all screen. This would mean a large, folding screen incorporated into a small device. The goal is to keep usability and increase screen size.

All designs are in the concept phase now. The model pictured above has been named Plica. This is definitely an exciting look at what our phones could be looking like in the near future.

What do you think? Do you want to lose the buttons and go all screen?

Housing Crisis, Mobile Party

Mobile market growth

Whoever thought there was an economic slowdown wasn’t counting the mobile phone industry. In the second quarter of 2008 units sold has grown an estimated 15 to 22 percent. And there’s no slowing down from this industry.Nokia holds the lead with 40% of the market with Samsung in second with 15.2% according to ABI Research.

It is speculated that the Apple iPhone 3G has sparked competition, sales and growth in the mobile phone market with their aggressive marketing and pricing strategies. It’s created an exciting competitive market where innovation is driving price growth.

Whatever the cause, maybe we should start paying attention and dip a little bit into Nokia stocks? It might relieve us a little bit from the state of the housing market. I’ll try it!
