Android OS Demos on HTC Dream

Android Image

Finally we get a video demo of the much anticipated Google Android OS and the interface is as good as expected but the question remains is it running on the HTC Dream?

The ease of use of the OS recalls that associated with the iPhone Mac OS fluid, responsive and a pleasure to touch but with the advantage of being an open-source platform. The phone used in the demo runs on the Qualcomm MSM7201A platform and packs 528MHz CPU, 3G HSDPA 3.6Mbps, 128MB of RAM and 256MB of flash memory.

If this is the anticipated HTC we are all hoping it is we are in for a treat with a capacitive touchscreen display by Synaptics and a display that offers high resolution finger input and multi-touch capabilities.

Check out the OS and possibly the HTC Dream in action.

Here’s a video of the device/os interacting with Google Maps Street View in compass mode.

A closer look at Google Maps.

And when you know where you are going why not tuck into the pill-muching adventures of PacMan?

The Android cometh.

Samsung L870 S60 Slider on Safari

Samsung L780 S60 Slider Photos

Love Surfing the internet on your phone? Take note. A first outside the Apple iPhone, the Samsung L870 S60 Slider will feature Apple’s much loved mobile Safari browser.

The Symbian powered OS is the same as featured in N Series Nokia smartphones and when combined with the sleek brushed stainless steel 13.55 mm thick body, 3 mp camera, 3G HSDPA 3.6Mbps and 2.4″ 16M TFT display this is one spicy addition to Samsung’s smartphone ranks.

S60 and Safari what more could you want? Well regrettably the phone lacks WiFi functionality, more proof that when it comes to cell phones you just cant have it all.

9 Excuses For a New Phone

Cell phone Upgrade Needed?

So you’re eyeing the forthcoming HTC Touch Diamond but you can’t justify the expense of yet another cell phone? Well maybe you are forgetting that far from being just the happy go lucky browser of choice newer models such as the iPhone and N78 are well worth it, for productivity reasons of course.

Below are 9 reasons why a cell phone is no longer a luxury but a necessity.

1. Communication. If you want to disappear without a trace you could do worse than go without a mobile phone. The days of waiting patiently for a late friend, missing a rescheduled meeting or heaven-forbid, waiting outside a phone booth are long since past.

2. Ideas. Whether you are a rabid networker or simply a rush hour poet chances are you find yourself sans pen and paper when ideas occur to you. With your mobile you need never forget another Haiku with a range of options for storage or even email yourself.

3. Keeping track. With summer sneaking up there’s plenty of idle threats to turn over a new leaf whether its weight loss, exercise or simply saving a little extra cash. Why not use our phone to track these goals Fitday to start tracking your diet and workouts or Buxfer for tracking your spending.

4. Get on top of your bills. Most companies offer cell phone services allowing you to pay our bills through our cell phone. Why go to the bank or post office?

5. To do lists. If you can’t remember where you left your keys its likely other important pieces of information are being forgotten. Will you remember? Why not use your cell phone to set up a reminder.

6. Best Price. Deal of the century? Why not do one last check using Frucall, you can get a quick glance at what the item would cost at Amazon, Yahoo Shopping, etc.

7. Alarm. We’ve all found ourselves hurriedly dashing from Hotel rooms to the airport or from bed to the office due to unexpected sleep-ins. Why not take advantage of one of your phones simplist but most important features and rest easy.

8. Contacts. One of the most valuable things on your phone is the contact information. When it comes to a lost phone it can be a nightmare locating numbers again especially for those chance meetings. Do yourself a favor and back-up your phone contacts.

9. New phone. Of course most of these features are on your existing phone so now you need a reason to dish out for a new phone. No 3G? No GPS? Sudden microwave related catastrophy? It can happen you know.

Australia to Get 42Mbps 3G iPhone

Apple 3G Image

News sources in Australia are reporting Telstra executives have let slip that they will have the 3G iPhone running 42Mbps by Christmas.

To run these speeds on Telstra’s Next G HSDPA network will be upgrading to HSPA+ or Evolved HSPA. This speed compares favorably with the AT&T networks 500-800Kbps download speeds.

We’re getting excited at TimTechs HQ with 17 days until the assumed June 9th launch, what other surprises are Apple keeping under their hat?
