Audeo Voiceless Phone Call Neckband

Audeo Neckband Thought Phone

If you ever wondered how long it would be before there was virtual telepathy, or simply just wished you didn’t have to hear another bus passengers trivial phone conversations scientists are here to help.

Using the “Audeo” wireless neckband you can make telephone conversations via nerve signals to your vocal chords, these “thoughts” or impulses are then vocalized by the neckband.

While it only recognizes 150 words presently the future of the device will involve using “thought” search to query the internet for relevant results.

Be careful what you wish for and enjoy the video….

Leaked Photos of iPhone Firmware 2,0

Apple iPhone Firmware 2.0 Screenshots

Here’s a sneak peek at the Apple iPhone Firmware 2.0 set for release in June.

From the screenshots there are some notable, if not unexpected changes: parental controls, mail mass deletion, advanced calculator, exchange support, appstore, CISCO VPN support and somewhat surprisingly given our recent news - no spotlight search icon in contacts.

The plot thickens.

Minority Report UI Gets Showcased, Video

Minority Report Still

Before he was controlling global opinion through the shadowy auspices of Scientology and Oprah, Tom Cruise was controlling information with the multitouch UI in Minority Report.

Yesterdays idle fancy is becoming todays reality though with the Minority Report UI being showcased at CeBIT. The UI lets you move, resize, flip etc but cool as it may be, where exactly are we going to use this unwieldy interface - in study halls? At work?

Securephone Encrypted GSM Phone

Securephone Encrypted GSM Phone

Perhaps just the solution for our Indian Blackberry bearing brother, the Securephone Encrypted GSM cell phone boasts military-grade secure conversations.

Packing a saber-rattling triple layer, 256-bit encryption based on Twofish, AES and Serpent ciphers, just looking at this phone is enough to get you waterboarded.

While the triple threat may sound like the master of ciphers the whole process comes to nothing if the recipient is all lasseiz faire on a Motorola or some such. If you want to keep the man at bay you’ll likely need to invest in two of these devices, but at £1051.63 x 2, perhaps you should talk in person.

Indian Government Wants Blackberry Access

Indian Blackberry
India’s 400 000 Blackberry users salad days of using push email to plot to overthrow the government are over. Indian authorities are demanding RIM either allow access to their customers encrypted communications or lower the encryption to 40-bit.

Following similar governmental interference in the US, ISPs are raising concerns that if RIM complies, all encrypted wireless data will be open to spying, making ecommerce virtually impossible.

Will RIM hold their ground? Will other phone users in India suddenly flock to Blackberry devices? We’ll keep you posted on the outcome of the meeting.

SMS Loans Indebting Swedish Youth

SMS Loans Rock Swedish Youth

When you think of Sweden you probably think of snow, buxom blondes and a spiraling SMS debt crisis. No? Just me? An instant loan service in Sweden that allows you to access 300 euros in your bank account in 15 minutes just by sending an SMS has lead to increasing youth debt.

Youths living large on their SMS ensured, unsecured loans, get a nasty sting when the fees and interest payments see their loan of 3,000 kronor ($USD500) skyrocket.

The ease of the transaction has been a hit with 18-25 year olds who make up 35.9% of the market, but the 30 day payback timeframe has seen many trapped in a cycle of debt.

And you thought dialing under the influence was dangerous.

Dashwire, Desktop Mirror for Mobile Content

Dashwire Screenshot
With every other phone seemingly pitching itself as a PocketPC or mobile computer its easy to forget that somethings are just much easier on a PC. That’s the philosophy that brings you Dashwire, a free app that automatically mirrors content on your phone.

If you have ever battled with the QWERTY keyboard on a Blackberry or the small display on a Samsung you will appreciate the extra screen space, full keyboard and enhanced functionality of a PC. It’s easy to share Dashwire’s enthusiasm for the old desktop.

With their Windows mobile freeware you can send and receive text messages without touching your phone, automatically upload photos/video from your phone and share with friends, quickly update and manage my internet bookmarks/favorites and add contacts via your PC that will instantly appear on your phone.

Sounds great huh? Another point in their favor is that being Web 2.0 they can make updates and add features at any time. Check out the video tour.
