Android OS Running Google Street View and Quake

Andoird OS Quake Screenshot
The hype surrounding the forthcoming Google Android OS is immense and so it is that Google’s own Andy Rubin sat down with the BBC to demo Google Maps Street View.

Running on Qualcomm MSM7200 with a 300Mhz processor, with half the processing power of the iPhone, the Android OS looks fluid and responsive. No doubt benefitting from Qualcomm’s 2D/3D accelerator that allows him to play Quake at 30fps.

This is the first of Google Street View on a mobile device, but certainly not the last. Enjoy the video…

3G iPhone Mockup

UBS analysts have started whispers that iPhone will be running on the HSDPA 3G network from the second half 2008.

Speculation by UBS suggest current iPhone baseband provider Infineon will ramp down production of their EDGE chips and ramp up HSDPA production including a digital baseband controller, power management unit and radio frequency module.

Long overdue, but exciting none-the-less, the new 3G Apple iPhone could be here sooner than you think.

Yahoo Replaced by Google in Opera Mobile

Google v Opera Logos

Yahoo just can’t win a trick lately. Having avoided the takeover by Microsoft they’ve had to sit back and watch themselves be over-taken by Google on Opera’s mobile web browser.

When a company reachs such ubiquity that the verb of using their product is synonymous with the product name, Googling on Opera mobiles seems pretty inescapable.

Riding the crest of a recent wave which has seen Googling integrated in Nokia Search App and the move from integration in Opera’s desktop software slide into their mobile alternatives Opera Mini and Opera Mobile, Google seems unstoppable.

The move adds nearly 100 million people using relevant Opera products to the Google empire. It’s good to be Google, Yahoo - not so much.

10 Million iPhones by Year End

Apple iPhone King of Phones

Apple’s COO Tim Cook speaking at an investment conference suggested he has “really good confidence” the company will reach their 10 Million iPhone benchmark.

With the long awaited SDK to be released March 6th with “exciting new enterprise features”, indications that Apple may consider expanding beyond single carrier model “we’re not married to any business model”, unlocking becoming much easier and expansion into markets such as Ireland (March 14th?) and Italy, it’s not hard to see why the future of the iPhone is bright and getting brighter.

Waterproof WP812 Phone from China

Waterproof WP812 Phone Photos

Long accused of ‘borrowing’ technology China has responded with a little techonlogical marvel, the WP812, their first waterproof handset.

Not entirely dissimilar to Nokia in design the touchscreen equipped handset’s waterproof functionality is just the thing for forgetful types who err…put their phones through the wash, shower fully clothed or repair underwater cabling.
