Researchers from UC Berkeley joined forces with Nokia in an experiment designed to help transform the way drivers negotiate congested roadways.
With the aid of the GPS enabled Nokia N95, 100 research cars navigated highway near San Francisco and collected real-time information on the traffic conditions which was then relayed using location reading software.
Before you cry big brother, fear not, the technique used maintains the privacy of participating vehicles, automatically encoding the data and adding it anonymously to the data stream.
The technology could function with as few as 5% of drivers participating and give an accurate estimate of expected travel times without sacrificing privacy. So its time to start thinking of better excuses for missing that big meeting.

They had a good run for a while but now it looks as though AT&T’s priviledged position atop the iPhone juggernaut is about to come to an end thanks to a new software unlock from George Hotz.
The new software is said to work on all fresh out of the box 1.1.3 iPhones with a 4.6 bootloader, something previous unlocking attempts have been able to do.
Below are the suggested steps to follow.
1. Firstly you will need to download this software:
* ‘gunlock’ and the ’secpack’ from http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/
* the ‘4.02.13 fls’ from http://george.zjlotto.com/index.php/baseband/
2. Downgrade your phone to 1.0.2. There are online tutorials that can assist you with this, and don’t worry your baseband won’t be downgraded. This may work on other versions too, but 1.0.2 doesn’t lose wifi on bb access.
3. Kill CommCenter and run “gunlock secpack ICE04.02.13_G.fls”
4. Reload CommCenter. If your phone goes into ‘brick mode’ use the elite team bricktool to get out.
5. Finally enjoy your free to roam unlocked .1.2 OTB iPhone.

With tilt-and-slide mechanisms and multitouch patents at their disposal there is suggestion that the team being the 8800 and 8300 are trying to nullify there new competition and still deliver on the keyboard front.
